Now, while everyone is waiting for the release of OpenCart 4.1.0.0, a new version of the "old" branch of OpenCart 3.0.xx has appeared on the official GitHub repository under the number 3.0.4.0. Although this update does not bring significant functional changes, it contains many small fixes and additions.
When discussing the new version number, there were two options: 3.0.3.10 or 3.0.4.0. Since there are actually no new features, it would be logical to choose version 3.0.3.10. However, this could create compatibility issues with older extensions that check CMS versions. Therefore, it was decided to use the number 3.0.4.0, since it reflects not only bug fixes, but also some changes in modules.
The new version of OpenCart 3.0.4.0 offers the following changes compared to 3.0.3.9:
- Bug fixes in currency update, marketing message counter, .htaccess.txt and others.
- Added new modules for payment systems, including Opayo.
- Patches for PHP 8 compatibility and security improvements.
- Updates and fixes in various modules such as PayPal, SagePay and others.
- Code improvements including removing unnecessary files and fixing duplicate array keys.
This release brings important security updates and bug fixes, making it a good choice for those using the 3.0.3.x stable branch. Most modules and extensions that worked with the previous version 3.0.3.9 will be compatible with this version.
The release of a new version of the old branch is a sign that we can expect the release of OpenCart 4.1.0.0 in the near future. Daniel Kerr, the author of OpenCart, is already working on new features for the admin, and a new version is planned to be released after these works are completed.
